A motivational poster is like a haiku or a knock-knock joke. It provides a framework for your creativity. There are just three simple parts - the photo, the title, and the subtitle. Your eye catches the photo and title first, then the subtitle should clarify or provide insight. If you're going for comedy, the subtitle would normally have the punch line. Try your hand at it and see what works.
The photo should be in landscape format (on an iPhone, a photo taken with the phone tilted left or right). A portrait photo will work, but doesn't fill the image well enough.
